SMW+ Semantic Enterprise Wiki - Daniel Hansch

SMW+ is the standards-compliant Semantic Enterprise Wiki from ontoprise, Germany. It supports agile collaboration on rich text and across teams and communities. SMW+ combines the query and data management power of a database with the ease of use and collaboration features of a wiki. Daniel will present how state-of-the-art Wiki features are augmented with semantic technology in SMW+. Daniel Hansch is director and senior project manager at Germany-based ontoprise GmbH, where he leads a consortium to develop an extension to Semantic MediaWiki for the Halo project, which is sponsored by Vulcan Inc. Michael Erdmann works in R&D at Ontoprise.

Dydra: Making RDF Easy - Ben Lavender

Dydra is a turnkey, friction-free cloud-based RDF store, delivered as a service. In this presentation, we'll briefly cover the benefits to a cloud-based RDF store, describe the interfaces to the service, and run a live demo with Ben Lavender.

SPIN (SPARQL Inferencing Notation) - Dean Allemang

Discover a new standard that uses SPARQL to express rules and object behaviors for the Semantic Web. SPIN, also known as SPARQL Rules, has recently been accepted by W3C as a member submission from TopQuadrant, Open Link and RPI. SPIN combines concepts from object oriented languages, query languages, and rule-based systems to describe computational behavior of objects on the web of data. Its use of SPARQL means that SPIN rules can run directly on most RDF query engines and graph stores. Irene Polikoff will introduce SPIN, its design and goals, and demonstrate how SPIN is being used today for the Semantic Web applications.

Dean Allemang is a Chief Scientist at TopQuadrant. Dean is an internationally recognized thought leader in Semantic Web technology, and the author of the popular book “Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist”, now in 2nd edition and 5 languages.

The LinkedIn Platform - Kirsten Jones

Building the Professional Web: Using LinkedIn's Platform to Enhance your User Experience. The LinkedIn Platform provides a rich set of resources, for everyone from casual web publishers to hard core developers. Our plugins allow web publishers to integrate with LinkedIn quickly and easily. The Javascript API framework makes it possible for web developers to leverage the full power of our platform in web applications, and the REST API lets backend coders get right to the heart of the platform to enrich their user's experiences.

Enhancing your Application - How DailyEndeavor used the LinkedIn Platform to Enrich their Application. DailyEndeavor allows people to explore potential career paths by reading about and hearing from people with those jobs. DailyEndeavor integrated the LinkedIn professional graph so LinkedIn members can see who in their network might know about a role they're exploring. This is done by calling the People Search API, which supports faceted search - so asking for connections who are "Attorneys in the BioChem Industry" is a single call to the system. The results are combined with the Profile plugin to present information about appropriate people. Screenshots and a high level description can be found on DailyEndeavor's blog here. This talk walks through the creation of that site, as a demonstration of how the various API layers work together in concert to provide a powerful toolset for bringing the professional web into your application.

Kirsten Jones works as a Developer Advocate on LinkedIn's Developer Relations team - writing documentation, answering questions, and providing everything our developers need to create amazing applications. Kirsten loves creating mashups and applications using as many APIs as possible, and is particularly passionate about visualizing graphs and creating compelling browsing experiences. She has been involved in the open source community for several years.
