===Linked Open Data for Rubyists: What the Semantic Web brings to Ruby===

The Semantic Web has been around for a while, but it's impact on Ruby programmers has been minimal to date. Now that interest is picking up in Linked Open Data (SemWeb for the rest of us) partly due to the Google/Microsoft/Yahoo Schema.org announcements and the interest in using JSON for RESTful server operations, the time has come for RDF to become a first class citizen in Ruby.


This presentation introduces RDF.rb and related gems to Rubyists wanting to publish or consume RDF in different formats, access remote graph-based datastores and seamlessly query local and remote datastores to expose and mash up data from the Linked Open Data sources such as DBPedia, Freebase, Government datasources and any number of datasets emerging in the Linked Open Data Cloud.

* Parsing and Serializing RDF in different formats 
* Generating HTML output with RDFa or Microdata 
* Querying datastores with SPARQL 
* Working with native Ruby Object interfaces to RDF repositories

===About the Speaker===

[[Gregg Kellogg]] is a consultant working at the intersection of the Semantic Web and Media. He is a former architect and chair of the Connected Media Experience, W3C Invited Expert for RDF Web Applications (RDFa & Microdata) and co-editor of the JSON-LD specification. Gregg has contributed to many Semantic Web projects, being a co-author and chief maintainer of RDF.rb, and implementer RDF/XML, Notation3, RDFa, Microdata, JSON-LD, Turtle and SPARQL Ruby gems.
